PRESENTING PARAMETERCHILD

Artist Bio

Justin Winters is a “maker” who uses the intersection between technology and art to accentuate the experience of the viewer, through light, sound, and mixed-media installation. Justin’s work focuses on the subjective nature of reality and the blurring of the line between digital and analog, between science and spiritual experience. He attended Northern Arizona University, receiving a BS in Computer Engineering in 2010. He has shown work in Arizona at the Unexpected Art Gallery, ARTELPHX Show, Scottsdale Artwalk, Phoenix First Fridays, and the Herberger Theatre Center, as well as the Currents New Media Festival in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

With a focus on creative coding, Justin’s work dives into the possibilities created when the viewer interacts with the artwork, through sensors, cameras, microphones, and any variety of input devices, creating a one of a kind experience and a sense of immediacy. His love for light is apparent, and projectors and lasers are his primary tools. Emerging technologies such as projection mapping and laser mapping expand the ways that these mediums can be utilized for art. This allows the transformation of the environment, bringing the observer further into a world apart from the daily view of things and capturing the imagination in the process. He believes that art can be a tool for learning, science can lead us to a deeper part of our nature, and technology can bridge the gap between the ineffable and our daily lives.
